So, you’re getting dermal filler Newport Beach: 6 things you need to know

You’ve thought about it for a while, and now you’re finally doing it—you’re getting dermal filler. While it’s normal to have some nerves about getting filler for the first time, you can rest assured that dermal fillers are proven safe and effective. With an expert injector like Dr. Malecki at Lotus Medical Aesthetics Newport Beach, you’re in good hands.

Dr. Malecki is the Medical Director for Allergan Aesthetics, the makers of the #1 dermal filler brand, Juvéderm. When he’s not at his practice, he’s traveling the country training physicians and injectors. Here are 6 things he wants you to know before your dermal filler treatment.

1. Your results will be immediate…and long-lasting.

Many people think filler and Botox are the same thing. They actually work quite differently—check out this blog post. While it can take several days for Botox to “set,” results with dermal fillers are immediate. You will be able to look in the mirror right after treatment and see how the injected filler has enhanced your appearance.

Results with Juvéderm, the leading hyaluronic acid dermal filler brand, last 1 to 2 years depending on the product used and the area injected

2. Mild side effects are common.

It’s very common after dermal filler treatment to have some redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness in the injection area. For most people, this goes away in about a week.

3. There are things you can do to reduce your risk of side effects.

Before your treatment: Do not take high-dose vitamin E, aspirin, anti-inflammatories or anti-coagulants during the week prior to injection. Always talk with your prescribing physician about changing how you take these medications

After your treatment: Do not wear make-up for 12 hours. Within the first 24 hours, avoid strenuous exercise, extensive sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages, all of which can cause or worsen redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites.

4. Injections are quick.

Filler injections usually take between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on what areas you’re having treated and how much filler is being used. temples can create a more ideal facial shape.

 5. You can get Botox on the same day.

Many clients want to get their injectable treatments at one time, and this is perfectly fine to do. Botox will work by temporarily relaxing specific muscles of the face to smooth out lines and wrinkles. Fillers work to add volume that’s been lost with age, or to enhance facial landmarks (eg, the lips, cheeks, chin). Combination treatment can lead to great results.

6. Touch-up treatments are recommended.

It’s a good idea to come back 2 weeks after your initial treatment so the doctor can assess results and determine if any additional filler is needed.
